Green Ship Technology listen in on Sea Traffic Management benefits

Published: March 24, 2014

One of the largest conferences on environmental improvements within shipping was held in Lilleström, Norway this March. The focus of Green Ship Technology this year was energy management and performance monitoring. Vessels are designed for optimal performance at a certain load and speed. But the rarely have that load or speed. Trim can make an impact of several percent, cleaning the hull and propeller also save many percent of fuel, and engines can sometimes be adjusted and save more than ten percent of the fuel consumption. Ulf Siwe presented Sea Traffic Management and Dynamic Route Exchange. This was a new angle on achieving savings, and the questions were many and varied.
