Cooperation with International Taskforce on Port Call Optimisation

Published: February 22, 2018

STM will work with the International Taskforce on Port Call Optimisation (ITPCO)
The Taskforce is a consortium of major shipping line and ports, working together on improving quality and availability of master and event data, which will deliver benefits to shipping lines, service providers, and terminals.

An important part of the agenda of the Taskforce is to agree on existing global functional and data definitions, sourced from standards within the shipping industry. Pushing and working together for the same standards will be good for both STM and ITPCO to speed this up.
Important input has been given by the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (nautical standards) and GS1 (supply chain standards).
This ensures that the nautical data on board of vessels corresponds to the information from the port, as well as the information used in the logistics chains.

The International Taskforce on Port Call Optimisation is since 2014 made up of the shipping lines Shell, Maersk, MSC, CMA-CGM and the ports of Algeciras, Busan, Gothenburg, Houston, Rotterdam, Singapore and Ningbo Zhoushan. Port of Rotterdam is already connecting to the 300 STM ships.

“Since the initiatives work with similar improvements and goals, we have had bi-weekly co-ordination meetings the last years to align and avoid double-work,” explains Ben van Scherpenzeel, ITPCO chairperson.

Lately STM and ITPCO have come even closer. “We participate in each other’s meetings and are implementing concrete solutions, which shows the strength of standards and the interoperability of the STM setup, “adds Per Setterberg, operational project manager, STM Validation project.
