2015 Jul – Marine Electronics & Communications – A great leap in e-navigation technology

This is a great leap in our technology and matches what is happening in the maritime world in terms of creating more online access, advances in navigation, and enhancements in system analysis. A prime example of how shipping is adopting new technology is the progress the industry is making towards e-navigation. Earlier this month, the European Union agreed to provide €21 million in funding to demonstrate and validate the Sea Traffic Management (STM) system as an e-navigation initiative. The demonstration will incorporate test beds in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean Sea, ultimately involving 10 different ports, three shore centres and an estimated 300 vessels.
